It’s slowly moving in the right direction. Check out The Stackless Way – it’s possible in 2021 to write pretty decent, modular, vanilla JS without a framework at all. It’ll take a while before it’s ready for complex scalable apps, but it’s the place I’d recommend every developer foraying into the front-end world should start out. It at least makes it easier to understand what you get for free and which parts of the framework you ultimately choose add value that can’t yet be accomplished natively.
